Bureau of Elections

NOTICE

The Valencia County Bureau of Elections will be doing a controlled destruction project beginning mid-April 2025 to include, but not limited to, all election related materials dated prior to November 2023. The Bureau of Elections will retain all pertinent information as required by law.

Absentee Voting

Absentee voting (by mail) for all county and state elections may be done by requesting an Absentee Ballot Application (pdf) from the Bureau of Elections. Complete and return the application to the Bureau of Elections and a ballot will be mailed. The time to apply for an absentee ballot varies from election to election, but it is generally 28 days prior to a Primary, General or Local Election. Contact the Bureau of Elections for further details. You may also fill out a request online at Online Absentee Request.

*PLEASE NOTE* For the 2024 General Election, the first day the Clerk’s office can mail ballots to voters is Tuesday, October 8th, 2024. The last day to request an absentee ballot is Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024. Requests must be received in the clerk’s office by 5:00pm on that day.

Early In-Person Voting

In-person voting is done at the Valencia County Administration Offices, located at 444 Luna Ave, Los Lunas. It begins 28 days prior to a Primary, General or Local Election and ends the Saturday before the election. For the 2024 General Election, hours are M-F 8:00am – 5:00pm, through October 18th. Beginning Saturday, October 19th through Saturday, November 2nd, hours are M-Sat 10:00am – 6:00pm.

*PLEASE NOTE* This polling location will be closed on Monday, October 14th, in observance of the federal holiday.

Same Day Registration is available at the voting location within the Valencia County Admin Building beginning 28 days prior to an election, as well as all early voting sites within the County. Voter must have a Valencia County residential address in order to register. Be prepared to show a picture ID, as well as proof of residency such as a utility statement, bank statement, etc.

Early voting at an alternate voting site is available for Primary and General elections. The 4 alternate voting sites are:

The hours of Early Voting are Monday through Saturday, 10am-6pm, beginning Saturday, October 19th. Early voting ends at all sites on Saturday, November 2nd.

Election Day Voting Sites

General Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. All voting sites will be open 7:00AM – 7:00PM. The 15 voting sites for Valencia County are:

Special Assistance

In registering to vote or casting a vote in person, physically challenged individuals may be assisted by a person of their choice. In addition, starting in 2006, specially equipped voting devices will be available at all precincts for the visually impaired voter.

Exceptions

Voters physically challenged who may be unable to register or vote in person at authorized locations, members of the armed forces and their families stationed overseas, and individuals who suffer medical emergencies just prior to an election should contact the Bureau of Elections for information on special procedures.

Fixed Election Schedule

  • Primary Elections are held on the 1st Tuesday after the first Monday in June of each even-numbered year.
  • General Elections are held on the 1st Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered year.

Local Election Act

  • Establishes a statewide Local Election every November of odd-numbered years for non-partisan officers and local government ballot questions. (This includes: Village of Los Lunas, City of Belen, City of Rio Communities, Town of Peralta, Los Lunas Schools, Belen Consolidated Schools, UNM Valencia Advisory Board and Soil and Water Conservation District.)
  • Establishes a Municipal Officer Election every March of even-numbered years. (Village of Bosque Farms only.)
  • Establishes uniform procedures for special elections at other times of the year for ballot questions; all postage is pre-paid by business-reply mail (BRM).
  • Provides for uniform election procedures for the call, conduct, and canvass of all elections, which align with what is already in place for the primary and general elections.

FAQs

Where can I find legal forms such as deeds, claim of liens, real estate contracts, etc.?

The County Clerks Office does not provide legal forms. Legal forms can be found at most office supply or stationary stores. We will accept forms from other states as long as the document is notarized and the original document is sent for recording.

How do I go about transferring my property to someone else?

The County Clerks Office records deeds that are sent to them. We do not draft deeds nor can property be transferred without one. If you wish to transfer your property it is recommended that you seek the assistance of an attorney or a title company. Blank forms can be found at most office supply stores and you can draft the document yourself if you wish. All names of the original owners must appear on the new deed as the seller (grantor) and their signatures must be notarized.

Where can I obtain a copy of my marriage license?

If you applied for your marriage license with the Valencia County Clerk, then we will be able to provide you with a copy of the license. We need to know the name of both individuals along with an approximate year of the marriage. Be sure to include the address where you would like the copy sent and a check with the correct fee. Keep in mind that divorce information is handled through the District Court. The County Clerks Office does not have such information.
